Writing your story △ from the heart
Let’s start at the beginning.
You were a wild child — free, creative and deeply intuitive. Slowly over time, you were conditioned. You were told what’s right and what’s wrong, what to believe, how to be polite, quiet, subdued and nice. You were given a little box to live within. And you may have loved that little box. It felt safe, and gave you a feeling of acceptance. And loves — we all desperately wanted this feeling of acceptance.
Then you got into grade school and high school — and you were taught how to: write an essay, write a research paper, write a haiku and if you were lucky, how to write a cover letter and resume. You were given very specific formulas and step by step processes. If you followed the formula correctly, you were rewarded.
It’s no wonder that many business owners are so lost when it comes to writing in a real, authentic way. To write mission statements, website copy or newsletters. To be vulnerable and share your story. It’s suddenly all about being unique and standing apart, yet you may have spent so much time in a tidy box.
I believe writing our stories is the most powerful thing we can do.
When we write our story, we step into our power. We reclaim our experiences, our expertise, our whole life leading up to this point. This beautiful point in time that’s rich with wisdom, ready to be shared.
Our creative muse is just waiting to come out. She requires patience and spaciousness. She may want you to dance, shake or take a long walk out in nature. She may want you to step away from the pressure of a blinking cursor and blank screen. She may want a sacred ritual or a candle to be lit.
Ask her, maybe she’ll tell you…
Then, I invite you to sit down and write from the heart. Write like you’re speaking to a dear friend. Write for the pure sake of connection. Write your truth, your beliefs, your why.
